So, lots of stuff happened since I last updated the report. I have had two concerts, one in Santa Rosa, and one in Santa Cruz. It’s been tough trying to recover from them. But at least I am done with most of my concerts and I have only Christmas Eve left to worry about. Our internship has just moved to a new location and it has been a lot of hauling and what not since the start of December. I have been having troubles with the BLS course payment site, as something in the server wasn’t letting me pay online. Although that has been resolved as of a couple hours ago and I am all set for the course later. So I will take the course later and update Dad on the outcome as soon as I’m done.
I’ve been testing out the artist interviews but none of them have really gone anywhere. I tried meeting with two of them over the past week and both have flaked on me. I have decided to try another way to get content for the blog: critiques. Since I have been ingesting a lot of stuff lately, I feel like it would be great to start honing in my taste with doing critiques about stuff that I see i.e. websites, movies, magazines, advertising, etc.
For example, one of my mentors has taken me to go see A Single Man. – Tom Ford’s directorial debut. I thought this would be relevant because I have been interested into getting into video sometime – despite it being a very time consuming outlet. The movie itself was amazing, especially considering that it was Tom Ford’s first try at directing and screenwriting. I think the interview he recently had with Charlie Rose gives insight into the movie. [If you want to see the interview, you have to go to the episode that aired on Dec. 11, 2009]
I have been trying to figure out what’s the next step for me this coming 2010. To be honest, it’s been very stressful thinking about it – which is kind of why I kept jumping at every chance to go back to Santa Rosa I could get. I can’t really make a concrete decision until I know whether or not my application to art school has been accepted. In either case, here is the general plan:
IF I GET ACCEPTED:
I plan to stay here in San Francisco. I will try to get a job and focus on the EKG Program. I still plan to stay with the chorus as it is still going to be beneficial to me when I move to NY. I might stop my internship or not. That depends on how convenient it will be for the coming semester.
IF I DON’T GET ACCEPTED THIS TIME:
I plan to move back to Santa Rosa. It will be only for the semester and I will be taking drawing courses so I can build up a better portfolio. The portfolio is the most important thing. I will still focus on the EKG Program. It will only be for a month or so, so the costs of driving down there and moving back won’t be as bad as I thought it would be. I still will be with the chorus and make that work. And I will stop my internship.
In either case, what will be consistent is that I will still focus on the EKG program no matter what. I will also still stay with the chorus, as this is very important to me. I will also – no matter what – still move to NY during the fall. By then I will have planned to use the summer to work at an EKG job so I can raise money to move.
That is more or less the plan.
I will send mom my art piece after updating this. I really have to say that I don’t think I can get much out of the woman from Pixar. Other than reasons I have told you, I just don’t think I have enough work to be of any use. I think what is the most important thing for my career now is to just produce more work. On that note, I will catch up on the blog posts and will post 4 entries this week. I have already finished one.
So thank you for the Christmas money. And thank you dad for the Food and Allowance, the Christmas party money, and for the payment of the BLS course.
I’m not quite sure what else to say. I feel pretty much covered for this week. I don’t think I want that camera bag anymore and since I decided not to take Randy to that show, I would really like it if I could just have that money so Mike Roberts and I can hang out while he visits me here in SF. Mom, I’m not sure if you know but Mike Roberts is my other best friend who moved to NY for the same art school.
